Várjuk együtt a karácsonyt! *** ~ Let's wait for Christmas together! ***

A KARÁCSONYFA

A téli napforduló idején a fáknak, különösen az örökzöldeknek különleges jelképes szerepe volt már az ókorban, a fény, a meleg visszatértét s a rontó szellemek távoltartását szolgálták. A rómaiak újévi zöld ágacskával, britek fagyöngykoszorúval várták a világosság eljövetelét és ezekkel rokon nálunk a Luca-napi búzakeltetés. Feltehetően először Luther Márton állított karácsonyfát gyermekeinek 1535-ben vagy 1536-ban. Kezdetben almát, diót, mézespogácsát, fa- és textil díszeket aggattak a fára. Magyarországon a 19. században terjedt el a karácsonyfa-állítás szokása.

CHRISTMAS TREE

During the winter solstice, the trees, especially the evergreens had a special symbolic role in the ancient times. They invited light and warmth and kept away evil spirits. The Romans were expecting the arrival of light with green branches, the British with mistletoes and the Hungarians with planting wheat-grains on Saint Lucia's day. Most probably, it was Martin Luther who set a Christmas tree for his children in 1535 or 1536 for the first time. At the beginning, apples, nuts, honey cookies, wood and textile ornaments were put on the tree. In Hungary, the custom of Christmas tree decoration spread in the 19th century.
