Tánc világnapja ~ International Dance Day

Dance was also an indispensable tool of ancient witchcraft, which was used to promote the so called trance-state. They believed that the can transcend and interact with the spirits or the forces of nature.

In Europe, only round and chain dances were danced until the Renaissance. Pair dance did not exist. It would be difficult to dance in churches today, as they are full of benches but is was common in the Middle Ages.

Dance is also used as a therapy, because it's a very special form of self-expression. Our body is capable of expressing internal feelings that are often unconscious within us. By discovering them, we can improve our well-being, our quality of life and our self-awareness.

A világnap a táncművészet művelőinek megbecsülésére is ráirányítja a figyelmet, hisz ők gyerekkoruktól teljes szellemi és fizikai képességüket a tánc szolgálatába állítják, s többnyire életük derekán véget ér pályafutásuk.
Dance day also draws attention to the appreciation of dance artists, as they put their all intellectual and physical ability at the service of dance from their childhood and their career ends in the middle of their lives.

International Dance Day takes place every year on 29th April all over the world. It was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO in 1982, on the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), French ballet dancer, the creator of modern ballet. He reconsidered ballet and in addition to the techniques he involved the intellectual and emotional abilities of the dancers. The day aims to promote dance and strives to encourage governments to give more attention to dance in the education system.

"I have decided to give a new direction to dance. I felt that even in ballet you can create something poetic, so I eliminated symmetrical shapes and I connected the physical and spiritual movement of the dancer with the mechanical movements of arms and legs... I chose nature as my lead, it showed me the example how dance can talk, how dance can express passion and raise it to the rank of imitation art." (from a letter to Voltaire)
